Sabbath Living

"The world aches for the generosity of well-rested people." – Wayne Muller

It seems that busyness has become a badge of honor, resulting in work that lacks the "wisdom of rest." Some think of Sabbath rest as a life-style suggestion rather than a commandment. Others fully realize its importance yet can’t seem to slow down. This course will gently explore ways that we might step back and "be" – whether it’s a Sunday or the middle of a busy workday. Through presentation, prayer and playful process we will examine our resistance to rest and discover ways that Sabbath time can help us become more receptive to the gifts of grace that God lavishes on us throughout each day.

Fabric Art as Prayer and Play

This course explores how we might glorify God when we combine our inner creativity with various Christian spiritual practices. We explore art as a form of prayer by creating a series of small fabric collages. Each class begins with a few practical suggestions for encouraging our creativity, followed by a group guided meditation exercise. The balance of the class is spent quietly playing with the inspiring colors provided, working intuitively rather than following a specific plan. The finished designs are permanently set with an iron-on technique. Participants must have previous experience using a scissors and an iron, but that’s it! No artistic talent is needed, however, a love of beauty is preferable.
